#473 Festive Spirit in America 22 Décembre 2009

When I wrote this article, the French culture was far behind me. I admit the festive spirit in the US is stronger than in France.
Above everything, it’s not as commercial as you expect: people in Florida love decorating and taking time to tinsel their houses. All I can share is from personal experiences and as you know the United States is a big place. What happens in Florida can’t be naively related to the other states.
My first festive experience was Halloween with pumpkins everywhere. A huge synergy took off mid-October: houses started to be decorated and we, at AgencyNet, remade the inside to host a one-night party with a bartender, snacks and games. I got Cloud (FF7) costume, bought some blue colored lenses (it took me 4 hours to put them …). October 31st, the sunset arrived and the night started. Everyone went on the streets. For the first time, I saw lot of energy in the Downtown and the in-house party was definitively excellent. Very creative.
My second experience was Thanksgiving. I flew to San Francisco in order to join friends in South Bay Area. The exquisite dinner was composed of the traditional turkey and some Indian dishes. I got a chance to see that event as a family / friend annual meeting: everyone is around the table sharing their life and thoughts. I was nicely surprised.
My third is going to be Christmas and New Year Eve. Early December, on the 1st, all houses changed. Pumpkins have been replaced by snowmen, candles by colorful outside lights. I’m biking every day to go to work and I can tell you: everything is fully decorated and ready for the coming events. Banks, restaurants, shops have been tinseled. I certainly will have some good experiences. We’ll see! I’m ready to have a winter without snow: it’s never going to fall with 25 degrees Celsius outside.
Enough talking, I wish you an excellent Christmas! Enjoy and drink responsible as well!
